The Chronic Illness Chronicles: Kisha Peterson

The Chronic Illness Chronicles: Kisha Peterson

For today’s post, I’m sharing the interview with Kisha Peterson. She is 45 years old, living in Maryland, and working in property management and real estate investing. Her favorite hobbies are working out and traveling.

What chronic illness do you have and when were you diagnosed?

Lupus SLE and Discoid Lupus. I was diagnosed in 2007.

How has it impacted your life?

I have to rest often and listen to my body and how I feel. I have to remember that I can’t do everything or endure stress the way I did before my diagnosis.

With SLE and Discoid Lupus, what have been the hardest things to deal with?

Having to tell people I’m sick or why I can’t do something and they say “you look fine” or “you were okay just yesterday”. Explaining and then they still don’t understand or do their own research to understand is annoying.

What blessings have happened in your life as you’ve faced this chronic illness?

Using the IG and Facebook platforms I have been able to share and inspire others that live with chronic illnesses. Showing the importance of staying positive, self care, and healthy living.

What have you learned?

I learned how eating healthy and exercise can help minimize illness symptoms.

What positive impact has SLE and Discoid Lupus had on your life?

I’ve learned to put myself first and appreciate life, one day at a time.

What do you do to stay positive?

I read inspirational books, I meditate, and I learn to find the good out of anything.

What would you say to others who are fighting chronic illness?

Just take one day at a time. Every day won’t be good, but as long as we are given a new day we can start over again.

What is your favorite quote?

Whatever doesn’t kill you will make you stronger.
