The Beginning

I stand
At the beginning
Facing an empty horizon
Unknown expanse
 
The openness
Makes me feel
A little lonely
And a little afraid
 
As I stand
Before the world
Saying this is me
This is my voice
 
But my voice feels good
In my throat
Exhilaration
A rush
 
And I know
This is a wonderful place to be
Full of hope
And opportunity
 
In this moment
The breath is fresh
The steps are new
The heart is energy
 
A twinge of sadness
Because this is the only moment
Of my entire journey
That will be the beginning
 
Beginning is hard
The middle is harder
The end
Will be the hardest
 
There will be plot twists
And changed destinations
There will be obstacles
And heartache
 
But for now I stand
At the beginning
